A Perfect Scam

Speaking of scam, the first thing comes to people’s mind usually are internet scam or telephone scam that make people lose money. However, the scam that I encountered in my life was friendship scam that not only made me lose money, but also the trust to other people.

When I was in the third grade of junior high school, I met one guy called Jim. Jim was a nice person who take care of me at school, asking me to go out whenever I need accompany. However, the reason why Jim treat me so nice is not because he likes me, he was planning something terrible. “Luke, could you borrow me five hundred? I’ll pay you back few weeks later” One day, Jim ask me to lend him some money, even he didn’t say why he need five hundred, I still give him what he want without second thought. Few weeks later, Jim said: “I am planning to buy the latest video game; could you borrow me one thousand?” Although Jim still owned me money, I said yes because he was one of the best friend to me. From then on, Jim ask me to lend him money every week, and I agreed every time.

I kept giving Jim money until we graduate, which is exactly the time I found out his evil plan. Since I no longer can meet Jim every day, I send message to ask him when can I get my money back, nevertheless, he blocked me both on Line and Facebook. As I wonder what happened between he and me, someone told me that Jim was a con man who approaches the student that are lonely and insecure, giving them care and confidence, then scam their money.

Although I lost much money before I graduate, this event teaches me a lot. Whenever someone ask me to borrow him money, it is important to know what he is going to do with the money. Even he does give me a good reason, I still cannot let down my guard. After Jim’s scam me five years ago, I’ll always suspect everything around me.
