Project#3 and semester end reflections

In Project#3, me and my group made a presentation about capital punishment, one of the most controversial method since human invented law system. Before we start to work on this project, we read two editorials in the textbook which talk about the pros and cons about capital punishment. Even we support death penalty, it is still beneficial to learn the con of it, such as innocent people might be executed by mistake or criminals can change. As the famous saying in Art of War by Sun Tzu: “Know the enemy and know yourself; in a hundred battles you will never be in peril.” Learning the counter argument of our own standpoint will not change our perspective, instead, it helps our team to concrete the points we wanted to give out during the presentation. In the process of searching our material for project#3, we learned many shocking information. We found out the amount money our country pays to take care of criminals is incredibly high, therefore, we use this example to elaborate the reason why support CP. In addition, we learned many notorious cases about inhumane killer murdered people again after they went out of jail. We all feel resentful about these event, however, we should put aside our personal feeling and clearly state the incident for the audience. While most of our groups chose to only elaborate one standpoint, James and Andy's group gave the audience both pros and cons of capital punishment. Their presentation impress me a lot because they are the only group that brought out the benefits of abolishing capital punnishment. Although I didn't agree with some of their perspectives, it is still intriguing to see things with their perspective. Putting ourselves in others shoes is also one of the reason why we did this project.

Each project we did this semester are all impressed me a lot. Compare to the writing class I took part in when I was a freshman, the course in this academic year encourage us to connect our writing skill with the society. From cover letter to death penalty, the process of writing each project help us to know ourselves and this world better, which benefits us incredibly. However, I feel unsatisfied about my performance in project#2. I chose wetlands as my topic, which is an important environment in Taiwan. I brought out as many examples as I can to elaborate why we should protect wetlands. However, after I read James’ article, I realized there’s no need to provide many examples, what is more crucial is to discuss many aspects of one particular idea. Unfortunately, we have started our online class since May 17 due to the epidemic. This period of time is tough for me since I have to stay in Shalu alone. The epidemic is extremely serious in New Taipai city so that I have to stay here until the sutuation gets better. loneliness somehow affects my academic performance. For me, studying and learning is not simply  about sit and listen. Personally, I perfer to have conversation with my classmate and discuss what we learn with them.  In addtion, I alway feel uneasy in frount of camara, which makes me nervous during the class.

The writing course this academic year made me learned a lot about my strengths and weakness through doing 3 projects. It will be a lifelong benefit for my English performance.
